Welcome to the question and answer section of our site. As stated before, we tend to be straight shooters and the responses listed below are those of our own that come from 14 plus years experience in the  web design and marketing business.

  1. What should I be doing first?
  2. I have done my homework and have a good idea of where it is I would like to end up, now what?
  3. What makes Edie's any different than any other website and design company
  4. What if I want to create my site and just have you host it?
  5. How many customers can I expect in the first six months?
  6. How does the process work if I sign on to have a website package done?
  7. What if I have a great business idea, but lack the necessary funds to get it underway?

What Should I be doing first

This answer depends  on your business. Lets start with the basic's:

  1. Have you done your homework ?...   Do you have an idea of where it is you are now and where it is you want to end up?
  2. Are you realistic about what it is that you would like to accomplish using the web? Don't get caught up in the hype of marketing schemes.
  3. Decide on just how much you can afford to spend and stay within your budget. Don't be fooled into thinking that you are going to make millions on the web. There are such examples, but they are few and far between.
  4. Know exactly what your expectations are and find out if they are truly attainable.

I have done my homework, have a good idea of where I want to end up. now what?

It's time to start looking for a solid web design and hosting business that's within your budget. Prior to doing this, write down exactly what your expectations are and any questions you may have concerning your new site. Don't be afraid to ask questions, as someone long before us said "The only dumb question is the question not asked".

Keep in mind when formulating these questions, the market place is content driven. This means the products and or services you plan to offer on the web has to supply the information and or prices quickly to the customer or you just lost the sale. Having a fancy looking site with a lot of graphics are great if the  only people you plan on seeing it are your family and friends. Keep it simple and to the point.

What makes e-Edie's Incorporated any different from any other website service?

Other than we want you to succeed!!!

1. We are a local New York based business with over 14 years experience in web development, design and hosting of your site.

2.The majority of our business is from return customers as well as word of mouth to other business's from satisfied clients.

3. We have well over 400 completed sites and at present are hosting the majority of them.

4. We give you our personal cell phone and when there is trouble, we work to resolve the problems. Nights and weekends...yes, we work those also until the problem is resolved and our clients are happy.

5. We do back-ups on the server as well as backing up to a CD to be placed in a safe location.

If you decide to go with us, we will ask you those direct questions about expectations concerning the web, we like to call it bubble popping. We want you, our client to have a solid understanding of how the web can work for you and your business. If it's not a win win situation for both parties involved, it's a no go on our end and we will decline our services. Our approach is to sit down with you and go over a realistic goal to shoot for. We will then take your business ideas and create a site that is not only functional, but has the look and feel that is unique to your business.

What if I want to create my own site and am just looking for a hosting company?

Here is where most business fail miserably on the web. We can and will host your site on our server for a monthly fee depending on the size and traffic going to and from it. So why the gloom and doom of the first line about business failings? Let me put it to you this way, yes you can create and maintain your own site if you have the time and experience of web publishing,  but usually that's not the case. The usual outcome is:

  1. The only people visiting your site are family and friends
  2. You don't have the time to keep your site updated and to make necessary changes to keep the site current (people stop coming)
  3. You loose any customer that can't find what they want on your site because their attention span is three seconds and the graphic you have takes 60 seconds to appear. Don't laugh, we have seen where companies have placed graphics that take over 470 seconds on their home page.
  4. You failed to realize there is a three click rule when it comes to customers. If they can't get to the information about the product or service within three clicks of the mouse.... no sale.

Our bottom line is not how much monies we make but how well we can satisfy our clients. One more thing before we go on. The best example I can give you that relates to the above statements is...

Mary and three other family members started making homemade soap out of their garage. They spent the last three years testing and perfected 15 different styles and scents that they would like to now market on-line. They have already spent the time & energy marketing it in the local area with great success.

Mary the spokesmen for the group had contacted us about taking the next step of bringing their soap business on-line. The family members had already sat down and created a site from a template that  basically sat out there for the past year getting without much luck.

I explained to Mary that they had done a great job with perfected 15 different soap styles and scents. I asked her if she thought that I could, with having no prior experience with soap other than using it in the shower just jump in without any  experience and do what they were doing and be successful?

Mary answered no because they had spent a lot of time and energy over the years perfecting it. I explained that it was the same with creating a website and having it be successful. Anyone these days can create a website from a template and call themselves a web developer. Making a website successful comes from years of experience, understanding website ranking with search engines and what it is that the customer really needs to make an informed decision.

My clients are good at what they do and expect the same from us...and why not, your paying your hard earned monies for it.

How many customers can I expect to get within the first six months?

This depends on a lot of factors:

  1. Will you be using the site as a tool or extension of a business already in place? For the businesses already in place, advertising plays a big part in the success of the site. Make sure to place your website address on all your business cards, newspaper and radio ads. Most people are now well connected to the internet and look for the information and prices by way of the web.
  2. Will you be advertising on Google or Yahoo to draw traffic?
  3. Keep in mind in the global marketplace, you are just one in millions of other sites competing for the market share. We will keep it real and have your site deliver the correct content that the user finds useful.
  4. This brings us back to the original question of how many visitors will come to the site in six months. We can guarantee you at least two visitors, you and I. It will depend on how well the site is marketed and supplying the correct content to the user.
  5. The real answer is that the majority of our sites on the low end are getting a couple hundred unique visitors a month to over 12,000 visitors a month. It really depends on what market your in, what information your supplying and how often people would be looking for what you have to offer.
  6. We tend not be to be too concerned at how much traffic your site is getting and more so on getting the correct traffic that is looking for what you have for sale on your site. What would you rather have... 10,000 visitors a month where only 100 of those buy something or 500 visitors with 350 buying something?

How does the process work if I sign on to have a website package done?

If possible, we ask to have a time set aside where we can get together over coffee or a phone call to go over what it is that you want to accomplish. Everything from how you want it to look to what you would like the site to be able to do. Some companies are just looking for their site to supply contact and product information whereas others are looking for databases and ecommerce  to take place.

What you have to keep in mind is that anything you can think of can be made possible on the web. The problem develops in that every option you add increases the overall cost of the package. If there is going to be a lot of programming needed on the site...the average cost is $120.00 an hour to accomplish this. Every page you add to the package increases the cost on average $100.00. I learned a long time ago to just keep things simple and to the point.

Once this step is completed, we start drawing diagrams of what you would like to see the site accomplish. This is design modeling to see how all the dots will fit. The graphical part is last on the list to get the look and feel your after. Once we have a fully functional site, we post it on a test server for you to see. We are still in the rough draft stages and expect some changes to take place.

Once the site has meet the approval of everyone, we take it to the next step of going live on www.yourdomain.com. Our policy is never to take a site that is under construction or not fully functional live as it tends to turn off any of your potential clients and or customers.

Now its time to start marketing your site. We submit the site to over 300 of the top search engines that include Google, Yahoo, Alta Vista, Web crawler and more. We already have in place the correct tags and content so that when the search engine first looks at your site, it will rank well based on these results.

Remember...you site needs to be changing in order to get people to keep coming back. Running sales, adding products and or services or adding a area of questions and answers for frequent questions that are being asked are just a few ways to accomplish this. Also keep in mind that we are always there to assist you in any way possible. We really want you happy with the service you received and hope to keep you as a client for a long time. Most of our work is word of mouth and if you are happy with our services, we would hope you would tell others.

If your not happy with our service in any way....we want to hear from you of how we can better ourselves and to also improve in those areas. Were big enough to know we are far from perfect...but you will guarantee that we will give 110% on any project.
